Kahuna massage is based on the ancient lomi lomi which is a whole body massage like no other. It is gentle but also a deep flowing form of massage that will relax, revitalize and revive you.
At its heart, Kahuna connects mind body and spirit. These three aspects to humans are linked, and through our neglect of any or all of them in daily 21th Century life, we often disconnect them. Kahuna massage is a starting point to help reconnect and balance the three so you become more aware of all that you are.
Question: What is ka huna massage and what is it good for?
Answer: Once only practised by the mysterious South Sea island kahunas or native priests, ka huna massage (also known as lomi lomi) is known in Hawaii as 'loving hands massage'.
A key concept of this deceptively powerful therapy is that the practitioner has to remain totally focused on the client, feeling deep love and compassion for them, rather than treating them as an 'object' to be 'fixed'.
Treatments
Ka huna massage affects the lymphatic, immune, digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems. It can therefore help a variety of ailments, from irritable bowel syndrome to headaches and asthma. It's especially appropriate for stress-related aches and neck and upper back tension.
Prepare to experience new wonders. Kahuna massage will relieve stress and fatigue, reconnect you to your physical self, and revive circulation throughout the body. Kahuna involves long, deep pressure strokes and movements rather than pointed, isolated pressure as in other forms of massage. Kahuna is suitable for all ages, and people in all states of health.
Oil massage
There are many different types of massage oils available.
For example Sweet Almond Oil is one of the most popular massage oils among massage therapists. Extracted from almonds, sweet almond oil is pale yellow in color.
Apricot Kernel Oil is similar in texture and color to almond oil, but is rich in vitamin E, a quality that gives it a longer shelf life than the typical oil.
Like almond oil, apricot kernel oil is absorbed into the skin, so it won't leave people feeling greasy afterwards. This property also makes it a good oil to use for aromatherapy massage.
Apricot kernel oil is a good alternative to sweet almond oil for people with nut allergies.
Jojoba Oil is actually a wax extracted from the seed of the jojoba plant. Jojoba is a good option for most people prone to back acne because it is thought to have antibacterial properties and contains long chain wax esters that closely resembles skin sebum.
It is very well-absorbed, which makes it a favorite carrier oil for aromatherapy. Jojoba is usually not irritating to skin.
Although you may think of coconut oil as being a thick, white solid oil, fractionated coconut oil is actually a light, non-greasy, liquid oil.
It is called fractionated coconut oil because it contains only a fraction of the whole oil. The long-chain triglycerides have been removed, leaving only the medium-chain triglycerides.
Thai massage
Thai massage is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement.
No oils are used in Thai massage.
It is known in Thailand as "nuat phaen boran" (Thai: นวดแผนโบราณ, IPA: [nûət pʰɛ̌ːn boːraːn]), literally, the ancient-manner massage.
The Thai massage recipient changes into loose, comfortable clothes and lies on a mat or firm mattress on the floor. It can be done solo or in a group of a dozen or so patients in the same large room. The receiver is put into many yoga-like positions during the course of the massage.
The massage practitioner leans on the recipient's body using hands and usually straight forearms locked at the elbow to apply firm rhythmic pressure. The massage generally follows the Sen lines on the body — somewhat analogous to meridians or Channel (Chinese medicine) and Indian nadis. Legs and feet of the giver can be used to fixate the body or limbs of the recipient. In other positions, hands fixate the body, while the feet do the massaging action. A full Thai massage session typically lasts two hours or more, and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body; this may include pulling fingers, toes, ears, cracking the knuckles, walking on the recipient's back, and arching the recipient's into bhujangasana or (cobra position). There is a standard procedure and rhythm to this massage.
Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.
Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
A Reiki Treatment
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes.
